Luxurique Joins the Top 100 Luxury Travel Agencies and Tour Operators of the World 2026

Luxurique is honoured to announce its selection as a winner of the Top 100 Travel Agencies and Tour Operators of the World 2026, awarded by the Luxury Lifestyle Awards, an international recognition celebrating excellence within the global luxury industry.

Selected among leading companies from around the world, this distinction represents more than an industry recognition.

It reflects a philosophy.

A philosophy built since 2014 around the belief that luxury travel should not begin with destinations.

It should begin with understanding.

Why the Future of Luxury Travel in Japan Begins with Understanding Japan Through Culture, Hospitality, and Experience Design

For decades, luxury was often defined by what could be acquired: the finest hotels, the most prestigious destinations, the rarest products, and the highest levels of service. Today, however, the expectations of the world’s most discerning travellers have fundamentally changed.

The modern luxury traveller is no longer searching simply for comfort or recognition.

They are searching for meaning.

They seek experiences that reflect their identity, their values, and their curiosity about the world. They want to discover places not as visitors passing through, but as guests invited into a deeper understanding of culture, people, and traditions.

Nowhere is this evolution more visible than in Japan.

Japan has always fascinated the world through its unique balance of ancient heritage and modern innovation. In 2024, Japan welcomed a record 36.9 million international visitors, while inbound tourism spending reached approximately ¥8.1 trillion, highlighting the country’s growing global appeal.

Yet the growing appeal of Japan among luxury travellers is not only driven by its famous landmarks or renowned hospitality. It comes from something much deeper: a culture where excellence is found in the smallest details, where craftsmanship is preserved across generations, from the delicate art of kintsugi, which transforms imperfection into beauty, to generations of artisans preserving the mastery of ceramics, lacquerware, textiles, and traditional crafts, and where human relationships remain at the centre of every meaningful experience.

True luxury in Japan lies not only in access to exceptional places, but in understanding the stories, traditions, and people behind them. Every experience carries a deeper meaning, shaped by generations of knowledge, cultural heritage, and personal connections that transform a journey into an unforgettable story.

This is the understanding that defines Luxurique. Through our international and Japanese team, representing more than 10 nationalities, we combine diverse global perspectives with deep local knowledge of Japan. Supported by the decades of experience, trusted relationships, and extensive network built by our CEO, Naomi Mano, we are able to understand both the expectations of our clients and the cultural depth of Japan.

By carefully matching each client’s interests, aspirations, and values with the right places, people, and traditions, we create a narrative that gives every journey its own meaning. Our role is not simply to arrange experiences, but to curate a story where each moment connects naturally and reflects the unique vision of each traveller.

Understanding the Individual Before Designing the Experience

Every traveller arrives in Japan with a different story.

A successful entrepreneur from Paris travelling with his family does not experience Japan in the same way as a technology founder seeking inspiration, a private banker organising a client experience, or a luxury brand creating a cultural activation.

At Luxurique, every project begins with understanding this difference.

Before recommending destinations, we seek to understand motivations.

-What inspires the client?

-What memories do they want to create?

-What level of privacy do they require?

-What cultural interests define them?

-What emotions should the experience create?

This human-centred approach is at the heart of our experience design philosophy.

Consider a typical Luxurique private client: a French entrepreneur in his fifties travelling with his family.

He has built a successful business, travelled extensively, stayed in the world's finest hotels, and experienced many luxury destinations.

For him, Japan is not about checking destinations from a list.

He wants something his family will remember years later.

He wants his children to understand Japanese culture beyond what they can read in books.

He wants moments that feel personal.

Perhaps it continues beyond the major destinations, discovering Japan from a different perspective through a private luxury cruise journey along its coastlines and islands. From the tranquil waters of the Seto Inland Sea to the remote landscapes of Hokkaido, Okinawa, and lesser known coastal communities.

Perhaps it begins with a private encounter with a traditional artisan, discovering the patience, discipline, and philosophy behind a craft preserved for generations.

Perhaps it continues with a private temple experience in Kyoto, where doors normally closed to visitors open for an exclusive visit with the head monk, offering a deeper understanding of Japanese spirituality and heritage.

In today’s rapidly growing tourism landscape, the increasing demand for Japanese cultural experiences has led to many simplified interpretations of traditions, sometimes creating confusion among discerning travellers. A performance presented as a geisha or sumo experience may not always involve authentic practitioners of these centuries old arts.

At Luxurique, our role is to preserve the distinction between access and authenticity. Through the trust built over decades, we provide access to true cultural masters: maiko from historic Kyoto houses with generations of heritage, sumo wrestlers and kabuki performers who represent distinguished lineages and recognised mastery in their respective arts.

Japan Beyond the Map: The Value of Cultural Access

One of Japan's greatest treasures is also one of its greatest challenges.

Many of the country's most extraordinary experiences cannot simply be found online.

Japan is built on relationships.

-Trust.

-Respect.

-Time.

A meaningful relationship must exist first.

Across Japan, countless artisans, cultural practitioners, and local communities continue to preserve exceptional traditions and knowledge passed down through generations. However, many of these individuals and organisations remain largely unknown outside their regions due to limited international exposure, language barriers, lack of digital presence, or simply because their traditions were never created for commercial promotion.

The most meaningful experiences in Japan are often hidden not by exclusivity, but by circumstance.

A master artisan may spend decades perfecting a craft but have no way to communicate their story to travellers from overseas. A family preserving a centuries old tradition may welcome visitors only through trusted introductions. A local community protecting its heritage may not have the resources or networks to connect with discerning international guests.

This can be seen across Japan, from the Ainu communities of Hokkaido, whose unique indigenous culture, spirituality, crafts, and relationship with nature remain deeply rooted but still unfamiliar to many international visitors, to master calligraphers, ceramic artists, lacquerware artisans, and traditional craftsmen whose expertise has been refined over generations yet remains largely invisible beyond Japan.

In Kyoto, authentic encounters with traditional arts such as calligraphy, tea ceremony, and geisha culture are not simply performances to be arranged. They require understanding, respect, and trusted relationships built over time. Behind each practice are individuals who have dedicated their lives to preserving knowledge that cannot be learned from a guidebook or replicated through a standard tourist experience.

Since 2014, we have travelled throughout Japan, from well known destinations to remote regions, continuously discovering the people, places, and stories that represent the true depth of Japanese culture.

Our role goes beyond creating luxury travel experiences. We actively collaborate with local governments, municipalities, tourism organisations, and regional partners through initiatives such as destination research, cultural visits, and FAM trips, helping to identify unique assets and connect Japan’s hidden treasures with the global luxury travel market.

We believe that luxury tourism has a responsibility to contribute to the preservation of the destinations and communities that make these experiences possible. By bringing greater visibility to artisans, cultural practitioners, and local communities, we aim to support the continuation of traditions that risk disappearing due to changing lifestyles, declining populations, and limited international exposure.

The Future of Luxury: Wellness, Longevity, and Meaningful Transformation

A significant evolution within luxury travel is the growing demand for wellness and health-focused experiences.

For many UHNW travellers, luxury is no longer defined only by comfort or enjoyment. It is increasingly connected to longevity, balance, and the ability to maintain wellbeing in a fast-changing world.

Japan offers a unique perspective on this evolution.

For centuries, Japanese culture has viewed wellbeing as a relationship between the body, mind, nature, and daily life. This philosophy can be found in traditional practices connected to mindfulness, nutrition, seasonal living, and hot spring culture. Today, this deep-rooted understanding of balance exists alongside some of the world’s most advanced medical innovations.

Japan has developed internationally recognised expertise in fields such as regenerative medicine, including research using induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells), precision medicine, advanced medical imaging, robotics-assisted healthcare, and preventive approaches focused on healthy ageing and longevity.

Japanese wellness does not begin with a single treatment or practice.

It begins with a philosophy.

This philosophy is reflected in the way Japanese people approach food, where nourishment is closely connected to seasonality, balance, and respect for nature. The traditional concept of ichiju sansai (一汁三菜), meaning “one soup and three dishes,” represents this approach by combining different flavours, textures, and nutritional elements into a harmonious meal.

Ingredients such as miso, fermented soy products, tofu, natto, seaweed, seasonal vegetables, and fish have been part of Japanese cuisine for generations, reflecting a relationship with food based on moderation, diversity, and connection with the natural environment.

The same philosophy can be found in Japan’s relationship with nature.

One of its most recognised expressions is shinrin yoku (森林浴), often translated as “forest bathing.”

More than simply walking through a forest, shinrin yoku represents the Japanese belief that reconnecting with nature can restore balance. Through the sound of the trees, the scent of the forest, the changing seasons, and the rhythm of the landscape, nature becomes a place of reflection and renewal.

This understanding has deep roots in Japanese culture, where mountains, forests, and natural landscapes have long held spiritual significance. From the ancient pilgrimage routes of Kumano Kodo to the cedar forests surrounding temples and sacred mountains, nature has always represented a place of purification, contemplation, and transformation.

For today’s successful individuals, often carrying significant professional responsibilities and constant demands, Japan offers something increasingly valuable :

  • A place to reconnect.

  • A place where time slows down.

  • A place where wellbeing becomes a journey rather than a destination.

From private stays in refined onsen resorts surrounded by mountains and mineral-rich waters, to traditional Japanese wellness practices, mindful rituals, personalised health programmes, and advanced medical consultations, Japan provides a unique environment where heritage and innovation meet.

Luxurique is exploring and developing this new generation of experiences, where hospitality, culture, wellness, and personalised care come together.

Through collaboration with specialised consultants and trusted experts, we identify Japan’s most relevant developments in healthcare, longevity, preventive wellbeing, and traditional wellness practices. This allows us to create carefully curated experiences that combine advanced medical knowledge, Japanese philosophy, and exceptional hospitality.

Japan as a Strategic Destination for Luxury Brands

Japan has become increasingly important for global luxury brands seeking deeper engagement with Asian audiences.

With one of the world’s most sophisticated luxury markets, a strong cultural influence across Asia, and a unique combination of heritage and innovation, Japan continues to attract international fashion houses, watchmakers, beauty companies, automotive brands, hospitality groups, and premium lifestyle organisations.

This growing interest is not only driven by consumer demand, but also by the rise of experiential marketing and corporate engagement in Japan. The depreciation of the Japanese yen in recent years has further increased Japan’s attractiveness as a destination for international brands and corporate groups, creating new opportunities to invest in high value experiences, events, and MICE programmes in the country.

Luxury brands are increasingly looking beyond traditional advertising and retail presence. They are seeking meaningful ways to connect with their audiences through private events, cultural collaborations, exclusive launches, brand storytelling, and experiences that create emotional connections.

For corporate groups, Japan has also become a strategic destination for MICE experiences. In 2024, Japan hosted 1,702 international conferences, according to JNTO statistics, demonstrating the continued recovery and importance of Japan as a global business events destination. Tokyo is also actively strengthening its position as a leading MICE city through new infrastructure, destination strategies, and support programmes. A new MICE facility in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, is scheduled to open in October 2027, adding new conference and event capacity in the heart of the city.

However, successfully engaging with Japan requires more than importing an international concept into the country.

Japan has its own rhythm, cultural codes, and expectations.

At the heart of Japanese luxury lies omotenashi: a philosophy that goes beyond hospitality by anticipating needs, understanding subtle expectations, and creating experiences where every detail has meaning.

For brands and corporations, success in Japan depends not only on the quality of the concept, but on how naturally it connects with Japanese culture.

A luxury activation cannot simply replicate an experience created elsewhere. It must be adapted, culturally aligned, and connected to Japan’s unique identity.

This is where Luxurique provides strategic value.

We support international brands, organisations, and corporate groups in transforming their objectives into authentic experiences within Japan. From the initial concept stage, we identify the purpose behind each project, whether strengthening client relationships, rewarding teams, launching a product, building brand awareness, or creating meaningful connections.
